Form meets function with this creatively coiled one-of-a-kind sisal basket, expertly + ethically handcrafted by artisans in Gitarama, Rwanda in partnership with Amsha (US).

 ***

The weavers grow their own sisal plants locally, then extract the fibers to hand-dye and weave them into these beautiful works of art.

To make these baskets, weavers coil the sisal around their sweetgrass, building intricate patterns with color.

These can function in endless ways as storage vessels, but were designed as planters.

*If used as a planter, ensure you plant in a ceramic vessel with a drainage plate.  These are not for direct planting as they are made from materials of the earth that will degrade when exposed to repeated moisture.

Founded in Portland, Oregon, now based in South Carolina - Amsha works directly with artisans across Africa. They focus on driving social change in underserved communities by bringing quality, ethically-produced goods to the marketplace.

Supporting Amsha goods supports women makers. When you purchase an Amsha piece, their artisans earn 2-3 times as much as they would in their local market. Amsha supports a living wage and benefits that go beyond fair trade.
