So, what are Slow Goods?

At Shop Lyko we believe that we can change our world by how we consume - and the world we hope to see is kind, unpolluted, nourished.  We believe that we can invest intentionally, less often, and nurture our local creative economy - instead of paying giant corporations to sustain destructive systems of techno-capitalism.

Slow Goods is tapped into the broader low-impact movement for a more mindful life by offering ecologically-responsible & ethically-produced goods, crafted in small batches by companies that prioritize the wellbeing of people & our planet. 

We originally coined the phrase in 2021 as part of our name, to describe the intentionally curated wares we sell, but the concept was not unknown to the world - it's been around for as long as commerce has.  The heart of the marketplace has had to fight to exist in the tech-industrialist era and we needed a new name for this new generation of resistance.  

We took inspiration from Portland’s popular farm-to-table, Slow Food movement, as well as our beloved Slow Fashion movement.  A new term needed to exist, so we put it on our door and explained it to everyone who asked.  It's amazing to see the name appear years later, amongst our sister shops, who share these values in common.
