Inspired by the forest and all the botanical treasures it holds, Flora + Fungi Apothecary creates artisanal cosmetics using plants native to the Great Lakes Bio-region. They specialize in the extraction of botanical compounds by harvesting at the peak of their season from healthy ecosystems. Some plants are dried to be used in oil infusions, other plants are steam distilled to obtain their hydrosols and essential oils. Others are treated with solvents such as glycerine and alcohol to obtain potent extracts to incorporate into their products.
Honoring the rhythms of the nature is central to their process, formulating products in small batches using seasonal plants. They combine modern scientific research into wild flora and fungi with traditional plant knowledge of the indigenous cultures of North America to create modern products rooted in ancient traditions.
