Opal takes its name from the Sanskrit word Upala which means precious stone. During Roman times, it took the name, Opallios. meaning to see-a-change-in-color. This name refers to the stone's characteristic kaleidoscopic, rainbow-like shimmer caused by the diffraction of light through microscopic silica spheres within the opal. Pliny the Elder, the Roman historian, spoke of Opalus holding the garnet flame, the purple essence of amethyst, and the shimmering sea greens of emerald.
The Opal stone is known for enhancing imagination and creativity, often referred to as the "Eye Stone" for its ability to foster deep introspection and emotional clarity. It signifies higher communication, hope, and letting go. As a supportive stone, Opal is said to possess healing energies that can help to soothe and clear the emotional body, bringing a sense of calm, balance, security, and inner peace.
The opal stone is also known to serve as a protective shield against negative energies - absorbing and reflecting harmful thoughts back to their source.
